Mateo Montijo Pursues Football Dreams at Pumas

Mateo, the son of Galilea Montijo, recently attended trials for the Pumas, aiming to join their youth academy. Despite challenges, he remains determined and supported by his mother in this crucial step towards professional football.

Mateo, son of the host Galilea Montijo, demonstrated his passion for sports by recently participating in a tryout session for Pumas, a team in Liga MX that he aspires to join in their youth academy. At 13 years old, Mateo actively plays soccer and longs to be part of the Pumas team in the Play-In of Liga MX in the Clausura 2025.

The host of "Hoy", Galilea Montijo, excitedly recounted her son Mateo's seventh tryout, showing her unconditional support for his dream of becoming a professional soccer player. Montijo shared pictures and videos of Mateo in action during the trials on her social media, wearing the iconic number 9 and the white uniform of Pumas UNAM, a team with a wide fan base across the country.

Mateo, who lives in Acapulco with his father Fernando Reina, traveled to Mexico City for the tryout, where he was accompanied by his mother. During the trials, Galilea was present at all times, witnessing the evaluations that her son underwent to determine his advancement to the next phase in his attempt to join the Pumas' youth team.

Although the result of the tryout has not been disclosed, Galilea Montijo expressed enthusiasm on her social media, highlighting Mateo's effort and passion. Tryouts in soccer are assessments where young players are observed by coaches and scouts with the aim of detecting talent that can be integrated into professional teams.

During a tryout, different aspects are evaluated, such as individual technique, physical condition, tactical understanding, and the players' attitude and mentality. If a player excels in the tryout, they may be invited to join the club's youth academy, where they will receive technical, tactical, and academic training to prepare them for higher levels of competition.
